THE STORY BEHIND FRACTAL CODE

How did fractal patterns for interiors come about? XAL Group spoke with Prof. Dr. Richard Taylor, head of Fractals Research and co-founder of ScienceDesignLab, and Dr. Anastasija Lesjak, co-founder of 13&9 Design and ScienceDesignLab. They explained where in nature fractal patterns can be found and how size, complexity, and repetition are defined in product development. The conceptual idea of having large-scale acoustic wall-panels came from architect Martin Lesjak, targeting interior spaces with large wall surfaces, where pattern repetition should be barely detectable. The architectural requirement of having a product that could be installed and customized on-site from floor to ceiling, coming together seamlessly around every corner, supports his idea of homogeneous wall aesthetics that also meet functional requirements, such as acoustic performance with stress-reductive patterns. The product is available for European architects and interior designers for their customized spaces.
