SCIENCE DESIGN LAB AT METROPOLIS MAGAZINE

Thank you, Avinash Rajagopal, Editor-in-Chief, for featuring us in your Metropolis Winter 2025 issue, in which five leading experts represent the topic “What’s Next in Biophilic Design?”

What began as a movement to “bring the outdoors in” has evolved into a sophisticated discipline that blends neuroscience, sustainability, and multisensory design. This section in our latest issue explores what’s next for designing with – and like – nature, featuring insights from five leading experts and new projects that put these principles into practice.

The section also includes articles about “both the experience of natural systems and their tangible interactions with buildings” says Avinash Rajagopal, editor in chief, in his editor’s letter, including Catie Ryan from Terrapin Bright Green, Anjan Chatterjee from the University of Pennsylvania, Erin Rovalo from the Living Future Institute, Rick Cook from COOKFOX Architects, and the three Co-founders of the ScienceDesignLab: Dr. Richard Taylor from the University of Oregon, Dr. med. univ. Anastasija Lesjak from 13&9 Design, and Martin Lesjak from 13&9 Design and INNOCAD architecture.

We are honored that, beyond the recently recorded podcast for Metropolis Deep Green, the ScienceDesignLab – as well as our fractal design-based interior project, the Fractal Chapel, which recently won the World Interior of the Year 2025 at the World Architecture Festival – were highlighted in this issue.
