MARTIN LESJAK INTERVIEWED BY DIE ZEIT

In the last issue of 2025, of DIE ZEIT, Martin Lesjak was interviewed by editor Thomas Miessgang about the Fractal Chapel at the University Hospital in Graz, a project by INNOCAD architecture in collaboration with 13&9 Design and Prof. Richard Taylor from Fractals Research and the University of Oregon.

Die Zeit is an established newspaper in Germany, Austria and Swiss since 1946. In this print and digital magazine, the article “Es werde Licht,” which translates to “Let There Be Light,” covers the story of the Fractal Chapel, the artwork by Manfred Erjautz, as well as insights into the science behind well-thought-out, fractal-based designs and their neuroscientific benefits, through a conversation with Lesjak.

“Richard Taylor describes the fractal as a universal language. People understand it on all continents – regardless of age or cultural background.” states Martin Lesjak while explaining biophilic design strategies and the importance of careful, science-based design by implementing natural, imperfect fractal patterns into the built environments people are spending the majority of their time in.
