FRACTAL DOCUMENTARY OF SCIENCE DESIGN LAB

We are truly excited that our partner in creative visual services, Banko Creative Studio, is starting a multi-location documentary exploring the science, history, design applications, and future potential of fractals. Through interviews, site visits, and real-world examples, the film traces the path from scientific discovery to interdisciplinary convergence, grounded in biophilic impact and human experience.

In early January 2026, Dan Banko and his team visited the University of Oregon, where Prof. Dr. Richard Taylor and his colleagues gave interviews for an upcoming documentary focusing on fractal science and its impact across disciplines. Filming took place at a variety of indoor and outdoor locations across the University of Oregon campus. Prof. Taylor not only participated in interviews and narration but also offered behind-the-scenes insights into his research environments, scientific methodologies, and ongoing experimental testing.

During the filming, Prof. Taylor demonstrated how fractal analysis is applied in both laboratory-based research and real-world architectural contexts, highlighting its proven effects on human stress reduction and visual perception. He also presented flooring applications at the university that implement fractal patterns designed by 13&9 Design, developed through a long-standing collaboration with Fractals Research for Mohawk Group. These installations translate peer-reviewed fractal research into large-scale built environments, illustrating how scientific findings can inform material design and contribute to healthier, more engaging spaces.

The next part of the documentary will feature Dr.med.univ. Anastasija Lesjak and Arch. Martin Lesjak of 13&9 Design and INNOCAD architecture, as well as their collaborators and clients, and will explore design methodologies and architectural application approaches in greater depth.
