BEYOND DEVELOPMENT. ARCHITECTURE, PLACEMAKING AND SUSTAINABILITY
Architecture has always shaped the way people live, but the scope of what architects engage with today has fundamentally broadened. Beyond the building itself, design increasingly touches systems, experiences and identities. The question is no longer just what gets built, but what it means for the people and places it becomes part of.
That expanded scope brings both opportunity and obligation. The thinking that goes into context, longevity and social impact is often what determines whether a project remains relevant over time. As Martin Lesjak puts it: “If we use resources like those involved in construction, we have to strive for relevance in what we do.” Authenticity and long-term thinking are not add-ons, they distinguish architecture that endures from what’s simply built.
This is the territory, the round table “Beyond Development. Architecture, Placemaking and Sustainability” at Perspective Europe 2026 explores – asking international voices not just how we build, but why, and for whom. Anastasija and Martin Lesjak are bringing a perspective shaped by transdisciplinary practice across architecture and interior – as well as product design and research.
In addition, Martin Lesjak is also invited to judge again at the Archello Awards 2026 – one of the most respected international awards in architecture and design.
