13&9 x FRACTALS RESEACH FOR XAL AT LIGHT + BUILDING 2026

At Light + Building 2026, our collaboration with XAL Group reveals how long-term research can be transformed into tangible architectural lighting solutions.

Our work is rooted in years of scientific research on fractal geometry and its impact and benefits, conducted in collaboration with our long-term partner, Prof. Richard Taylor from Fractals Research and the University of Oregon. Fractal patterns — found throughout nature — interact with the visual system in a unique way, supporting perceptual balance and stress reduction. This knowledge forms the foundation of FRACTAL CODE large-scale acoustic wall panels: a design framework that translates scientific principles into precise, reproducible design logic.

Together, these patterns were further developed to meet the demands of architectural lighting across diverse spaces, with FRACTAL CODE patterns embedded into luminaire design, informing optical structure, spatial distribution of light, and integration within modular systems. This close exchange between research, design, and engineering allowed scientific principles to become an active part of the product series: FRACTAL CODE LIGHT and FRACTAL CODE ACOUSTIC PANELS.

XAL Group interviewed Prof. Taylor about the science and ideas behind these new developments, which will be introduced at Light + Building 2026 in Frankfurt.
