in collaboration with 13&9 Design and INNOCAD
Mohawk Group, a leading commercial flooring company known for cutting-edge and innovative flooring solutions, unleashed an entirely new flooring experience at NeoCon 2015 focused on a transformative approach. Exemplified by 13&9’s Moving Floors, Mohawk’s Floors That Move You concept revolutionizes the perspective on flooring – from product to customer experience.
“Moving Floors is a completely new way of thinking about carpet tile as a product and as an entire floor within the context of a space,” said Jackie Dettmar, vice president of product development for Mohawk Group. “Collaborating with INNOCAD’s 13&9 Design has empowered our team to create a design tool for our customers so that they can create a personalized solution depending on trends, environments and moods.”
Moving Floors, an interactive design tool that delivers a new flooring concept with modular flexibility and can be turned any direction to provide endless possibilities.
Designed to be dynamically moving based on the user’s point of view, this collection was inspired by the geometry and illusion of pop-art and the multi-textured beauty of a cultural landscape. Moving Floors empowers you to turn your floor into a textured indoor landscape through limitless combinations of geometric patterning and coordinating textured solids. Clients can use Moving Floors interactive design tool to play with color and pattern installation methods that offer individual design solutions.

On the closing day of NeoCon, Martin Lesjak and Anastasija Sugic delivered a keynote presented by AIA Chicago and sponsored by Mohawk Group. Lesjak chronicled the history of INNOCAD, from when it was founded while he was still a student, to early housing projects, through Golden Nugget, to its current project in the June issue of Contract, HQ Volksbank South Tyrol. He noted that early on the practice was interdisciplinary and he learned from the contractors, manufacturers, and craftspeople whom with they worked. In 2013, after INNOCAD won a competition to design the retail space and welcoming center for Cannon Hall at the Graz Armory, 13&9 was created. The talk described how Sugic collaborated with the firm on the project, and Lesjak and Sugic became partners with the founding of 13&9 Design. Sugic described 13&9 Design’s products designed for their own label, Geometric Collection apparel, eyewear, jewelry, as well products they design for other global manufacturers: lighting, outdoor furniture, office furniture and floor covering. The lecture concluded with a summary of the essence of their consistent design philosophy and ended with a brand video that artfully articulated THE SOUL OF DESIGN.
13&9 would like to thank NeoCon and everyone who joined us as well as our team, the Mohawk Group, AIA Chicago and all of their collaborators and supporters.<
